In deciding, more than 20 years ago, to contribute to the field of medical research, the BNP Paribas Foundation was aware of the challenge posed by its support and the need to make a long-term commitment.

The BNP Paribas Foundation is supporting scientists who are developing the medicines of tomorrow, facilitating the work of researchers and physicians working on the dual frontiers of medical research and its clinical applications, improving their daily lives, and much more. The Foundation is working at their sides with a shared taste for innovation, the real driver of future progress. Since this programme was first implemented, more than twenty research teams and nearly two hundred grant recipients have received its support.

As part of this ongoing commitment, several initiatives have emerged within the BNP Paribas Group: partnerships with research centres in Switzerland and Australia, and the CIB programme for Health and Medical Research in 25 countries.

The Foundation's support is most often provided in the form of support for new research projects over a period of several years. It builds on the expertise of large institutions that are well known in the scientific world, such as:

  • The Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale (the Foundation for Medical Research), through the BNP Paribas Foundation Award for Scientific Innovation as part of the “Pionniers de la Recherche” (Research Pioneers) programme
  • The Institut Curie, which conducts research into understanding how cells function in order to innovate in the treatment against cancer
  • The Pasteur Institute, which fights against infectious diseases (hepatitis, influenza, tuberculosis, AIDS, etc.)
  • The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Raymond Poincaré, which, provides teaching and research into the care of people with severe disabilities.
