1973. Philippe Chatrier, then President of the French Tennis Federation, wanted to build box seats on the centre court at Roland Garros. The project was proposed to BNP, which agreed to finance the construction. In recognition of this partnership, three letters appeared on the famous court cover. BNP became the official sponsor of Roland Garros, now one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.

Evidence of this loyalty: during the 2012 French Open, BNP Paribas renewed its “official sponsor” partnership agreement with Roland Garros for another five years, until 2016.
