Now Boarding to Morocco

March 2010

RefletScent, colour, light… you’re in Morocco! Marhaba! (Welcome!)

Morocco evokes the palaces of the Sharifian emperors, surrounded by gardens; the souks, from which the mysterious scent of spices escapes; the fantasia and its flamboyant rituals.

Gliding along the Mediterranean coast, crossing the forests of oaks and palms to the mountains of Rif, witnessing the maritime wedding of the waters of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, while moving from one Riad (villa) to another... this is how you first discover Morocco.

But it would be a shame to look no further than these sumptuous fairytale images.

The Kingdom of Morocco has a young and dynamic population of over 31,000,000 inhabitants and is one of the oldest monarchies in the world. Its political capital is Rabat, although the economic capital and the largest city in the country is Casablanca. It has a strong GDP relative to the average in Africa, and the Casablanca Stock Exchange is the second largest African stock market, behind Johannesburg and ahead of Cairo.

Morocco’s proximity to Europe benefits the national economy, particularly in terms of offshoring. Morocco has always taken full advantage of its coastlines, and the construction of the port of Tangiers Med in 2004 was undeniably a turning point in terms of its maritime policy.

For the last 10 years, and since the ascension of King Mohammed VI to the throne, Morocco has experienced an authentic boom and has witnessed the launch of major investment projects in a variety of areas, including tourism, logistical and social infrastructure, housing etc. All these areas of investment have been extremely beneficial to the economy as well as to the culture of the country. Morocco is a country in the midst of rapid change.

For all these reasons, BNP Paribas has opened its doors in Morocco.

BMCI, whose primary shareholder is BNP Paribas, is engaged in universal banking, which provides service to every type of clients: Individuals (including Moroccans Residing Abroad), Professionals, Large Businesses and Institutional Clients and SMEs-SMIs (small- and medium-sized businesses and industries). To better meet the needs of its customers, the BMCI group makes available, through its network of over 250 branches in Morocco, the expertise and know-how of its 10 specialized subsidiaries and entities, especially with respect to Corporate Finance, Asset Management, stock exchange transactions, leasing, etc.

ISO 9001 version 2000 certified, BMCI is a reference bank in the field of international trade, largely thanks to the BNP Paribas Trade Centre in Casablanca.

BMCI has had an active policy of social and cultural philanthropy since the late 1990s. This genuine desire to contribute to Morocco’s social and cultural development has resulted in strong, long-term partnerships in the areas of culture and solidarity. In 2008, BMCI reinforced its philanthropic approach in support of causes that contribute to the general interest by creating a dedicated entity: the BMCI Foundation for Culture and Solidarity.

Recruitment

The Recruitment Process

Méditerranée IT seeks to recruit both skilled beginners and experienced staff in the field of software development.

Several recruitment sessions are scheduled each year at key points during the academic year. For each session, the recruitment team visits the most highly regarded schools of computing, both public and private, to present its activities. Students who are about to graduate thus receive a clear explanation of the role of analyst developer within Méditerranée IT, and are then invited to submit their applications. In addition, screening sessions may be arranged at Méditerranée IT offices to meet applicants who have submitted their CVs on their own initiative.

After an initial selection of applications, the BNP Paribas Group’s Human Resources team calls in the chosen candidates for an in-depth assessment of their applications. A series of individual and group interviews and evaluations allows us to identify the most promising candidates.

The selected candidates join Méditerranée IT once they have completed their degrees, and begin their training on the group’s standard tools. Training is generally oriented towards large, integrated systems.

They may also participate in a pre-employment internship at Méditerranée IT. Lasting 3 to 6 months, these internships allow them to receive quality training in the standards and methods currently in use, and to join the company if their work has been satisfactory during their internship.

All employees begin their production cycles as analyst developers at the same hierarchical level. Employees who have the necessary desire, drive and ability may be promoted to management roles.
