Senegal, which shares its name with the 1,750km long river that separates the country from Mauritania and Mali, is bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean and on the south by Guinea Bissau and the Republic of Guinea. Senegal almost completely surrounds The Gambia, an English-speaking country that occupies the entire lower part of the river Gambia.

Due to its geographical position between latitude 12'30 and 16'30 north and longitude 11'30 and 17'30, Senegal posses an intertropical climate, dominated by continental and maritime influences. There are five environmental regions: the Senegal River valley, the Maritime zone (along the Atlantic Ocean), the Groundnut Basin, Ferlo and Casamance.

Integration: a critical period for a new employee

Because a well-integrated employee is an employee who understands his or her working environment, BICI Senegal is continuously working to improve the way in which our new employees are welcomed into the company. When you first arrive, and depending on your role with the company, we offer:

  • an immersion period during which you will receive a hands-on introduction to your job
  • a schedule tailored to your needs and your role, that will allow you to meet the managers and understand the structure of the different entities

A tour of the bank to help you to absorb the functional relationships that you will have with each entity and its employees. This type of internship enables the new employee to understand the details of his or her role and, most importantly, to get up to speed quickly.

An integration seminar/lunch held each year to provide an opportunity for discussion and exchange between the entity’s managers and new employees, and in particular, between the new employees and the CEOs of the entities. During the seminar, the new arrivals are informed of the role of each entity plays within the bank and the structure of the Group, and are made aware of BNP Paribas’ goals and values.

Training: fostering the personal and professional growth of every employee

Customer satisfaction is at the heart of our business, so we must be both skilled and professional in order to meet the customer’s expectations.. At BICI Senegal, we consider training to be an essential means of achieving this goal. Training is therefore a valuable HR tool used throughout the year, for which we use both internal and external suppliers as well as in-house Group trainers.

  • Inform us of your training needs by stating your expectations clearly:

    • during career interviews with HR
    • during annual job evaluation meetings with your Manager.
  • Complete the required training: a formal annual training plan enables us to consolidate and organise individual and collective staff training needs.
  • Evaluate the training programmes that we provide so that we can measure your level of satisfaction and take appropriate steps as needed.
  • Share your new knowledge with your colleagues to foster the development of shared skills.

In 2010:

  • 80% of employees received training.
  • 9,700 training hours were provided to 389 employees.

Career management and mobility: we support you in your professional development

At BICIS, all employees receive personalised career monitoring, thanks to an annual assessment process  that provides a highly effective opportunity for discussions between the employee and his or her manager. This powerful tool for individual career management is supplemented by periodic career interviews for employees with high potential. This target group may be able to join the “Talent Development Program (TDP), a programme developed for the primary purpose of training future leaders of the Group.
Being a part of the BNP Paribas Group enables employees to expand their professional horizons by being given the opportunity to explore new business lines, whether within the country, in the sub-region or internationally.

Examples of career mobility:

  • An employee of BICI Côte d’Ivoire is assigned to the audit function based in Dakar
  • An employee of BICIS is assigned to the General Inspection department in Paris
