Focus on major events

  • In 2006, BNP Paribas Banque Privée had a strong growth in its clientele of high net worth individuals both in France and abroad.
  • BNP Paribas Banque Privée stepped up its policy of actively seeking both organic and external growth opportunities.

    Organic growth was extremely vigorous in 2006. Private Banking resources were enhanced in Asia (opening of a branch in China, new development in India and Taiwan, major recruitment of sales teams in Hong Kong and Singapore), in the Middle East, in collaboration with International Retail Banking and Financial Services, as well as “on-shore” in Europe (Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc.).

    In terms of external growth, the major event in 2006 was BNP Paribas’ purchase of BNL, which enabled the group to increase its client assets by nearly EUR 9 billion.

  • In May 2007, BNP Paribas proceeded with the acquisition of Dexia Banque Privée France, renamed Banque Privée Anjou.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners is the dedicated asset management offering of BNP Paribas. It provides its clients with a groundbreaking commercial framework that seamlessly blends customised solutions and client service.

Focus on major events

Creativity and innovation being key to the development of the asset management business, the offering was enhanced through the launch of several new products in 2006:

  • With a dedicated team and a range of Responsible Funds across all asset classes, BNP Paribas Asset Management holds Novethic’s top rating (AAA). The overall excellence of BNP Paribas Asset Management is also reflected by Fitch’s second-highest rating: AM2+.
  • BNP Paribas Investment Partners’ alternative investment offering has recently been enhanced through the addition of CooperNeff Alternative Managers.
  • BNP Paribas Asset Management, Federated Investors Inc. and Henderson Global Investors have teamed up to create Cash Funds International, an alliance to distribute their AAA-rated monetary funds.
  • Fischer Francis Trees & Watts (FFTW), international bond management specialist, is part of BNP Paribas Investment Partners at 100%. This position is an opportunity to increase the development of its credit management offering.
  • Effective 2007, the merger of BNL Gestioni and BNP Paribas Asset Management Italy will result in significant synergies.
  • High-growth markets are at the heart of the expansion strategy. New operations in Brunei, Malaysia, Kuwait, and a project in Taiwan, followed the launch of a joint venture in India and a partnership in Turkey with TEB.
  • This dynamism has enabled BNP Paribas Investment Partners to win several mandates from major institutional investors and to strengthen its market position among individuals. The Luxembourg-based umbrella fund Parvest continues its commercial and marketing drive through major distributors and private banks.

In March 2007, BNP Paribas acquired a 27% interest in the India-based company Geojit and became its main shareholder.

Geojit is a brokerage firm and distributor of financial savings products, with approximately 250,000 clients, a network of 400 branches throughout India, and over 2,000 employees. Geojit also operates in the United Arab Emirates through the joint-venture Barjeel Geojit Securities.

  • In 2006, Cortal Consors is the 5th most attractive brand among banks in Germany and the 2nd best on-line broker.
  • First banking platform for IFAs in France with more than 1,300 IFAs and about €1bn of assets under management.
  • In France, Label of Excellence from “Les Dossiers de l’Epargne” for Cortal Consors’ trading accounts.
  • Sustainable growth actions: Cortal Consors has done a “Carbon Assessment” to calculate the CO2 emissionsfrom its own activities. To compensate these emissions, Cortal Consors finances environmental projects in Chile and Cambodia with the GoodPlanet association (headed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand).

In 2006, BNP Paribas Immobilier reported another excellent year, thanks to organic growth in each of its four businesses and several international external growth operations:

  • In the United Kingdom, BNP Paribas Immobilier climbed to the 8th rank, thanks to the acquisition of Fuller Peiser and of specialised companies: Valuation Consulting, Parish Dean and Neilson Holt.
  • BNP Paribas Immobilier enhanced its presence in Ireland through the purchase of the Harrington Bannon company.
  • In Spain, the Group rose from the 8th to the 4th rank thanks to the acquisition of Gésinar.
  • In Italy, the presence of the Group’s property companies was considerably strengthened thanks to the integration of BNL Fondi Immobiliari.
