AMF : Autorité des Marchés Financiers. The principle aim of this authority is to improve the efficiency of France's financial regulatory system and to give it greater visibility.
The AMF is an independent public body with financial autonomy. Its remit is to:
ASPI : Advanced Sustainable Performance Index. ASPI Eurozone lists the top 120 Euro zone companies in terms of sustainable development performance. These companies are rated by the French agency Vigeo, according to 6 socially responsible criteria.
CIES : Inter-Union committee on Employee Savings. On January 29th 2002, the CFDT, CGC, CFTC and CGT (French trade unions) created the Comité Intersyndical de l'Epargne Salariale (CIES) in response to the Fabius Law of February 19th, 2001, which made Employees Savings a mandatory negotiation. The committee has established a prestigious list of top-ranking Sustainable Savings Funds, which is reviewed every year.
CNDD : The Sustainable Development National Council, created in 2002 comprises more than a hundred regional representatives of civil society. One of its missions is to elaborate the sustainable development national strategy.
CNIL : Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés. National Commission for IT and Freedom of Information.
CSR : Corporate Social Responsibility.
DJSI : Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Created in 1999, DJSI indexes were the first of its kind, listing companies according to their sustainable development performance.
EPE : Entreprises Pour l'Environnement. The objective of this organisation, which comprises 45 major companies, is to integrate environmental issues in their company strategies as effectively as possible.
FTSE4GOOD : Created in 2001, FTSE4GOOD indexes are a range of socially responsible stock exchange indexes included in the British FTSE index.
GRI : The Global Reporting Initiative is a multi-stakeholder process and independent institution whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability Reporting Guidelines.
HQE : Haute Qualité Environnementale. High Environmental Quality.
ILO : International Labour Organisation.
Loi NRE : Law on New Economic Regulations. A French law that came into force in 2001, making environmental reporting mandatory for businesses.
ORSE : Observatoire sur la Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises. The Research Institute for Corporate Social Responsibility. A French network designed to study and promote socially responsible investment (SRI,) corporate social responsibility and other topics related to sustainable development. ORSE is a non-profit organisation, set up in June 2000.
SAM : Sustainability Asset Management. SAM is an independent Asset Management Company that gives advices to institutional and private clients on their responsible investment. SAM launched the first Socially Responsible Investment Index in 1999.
SBF 120 : Paris Stock Exchange Index created in 1993, listing the 120 largest French companies by market capitalization.
SRI : Socially Responsible Investment.
UNDP : United Nations Development Program
UNEP : United Nations Environment Program
WTO : World Trade Organisation.
